Communicate in the workplace
This unit covers the competency for interacting with people internally and externally through verbal, nonverbal and written communications in the workplace and the ability to follow verbal and written workplace instructions

Conduct fire team operations
This unit covers the conducting of fire team operations in resources and infrastructure industries. It includes the planning and preparing for work, fighting or containing fires and finalising operations.

Drive vehicles under operational conditions
This unit covers the competency to drive vehicles safely, including the systematic, safe and efficient control of all vehicles functions and effective management of hazardous situations under operational conditions.

Employ personal protection at hazmat incidents
This unit covers the competency required to select, don, test and safely operate appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment at an incident involving dangerous goods and hazardous substances.

Fire extinguisher operation
This unit will detail how to select and operate fire extinguishers in the workplace

Maintain safety at an incident scene
This unit covers the competency to recognise potential health and safety risks and take action to eliminate or control those risks at incident scenes, to prevent injury to self, other personnel or members of the public

This unit covers the competency required to select, don, operate and maintain breathing apparatus equipment in an irrespirable atmosphere.

Operate pumps
This unit covers the competency required to operate a portable and/or appliance-mounted pump at an incident.

Participate in a rescue operation
This unit covers the competency required to participate in rescue operations as a member of a rescue team.

Prepare, maintain and test equipment
This unit covers the competency to inspect, maintain and test a range of equipment according to organisation’s procedures.

Prevent injury
This unit covers the competency required to identify and avoid workplace hazards and risks, to maintain personal safety and to report identified issues to supervisors and team members.

Render hazardous materials safe
This unit covers the competency required to safely combat incidents involving hazardous materials

Respond to isolated incident
This unit covers the competency required to respond to an isolated structure fire when working as a member of a team under direct supervision. An ‘isolated structure’ refers to a free-standing building or manmade construction, such as a homestead or farm machinery shed. With an isolated structure, the possibility of fire spread between the structure itself and other structures or property not directly involved in the fire is generally low.

Respond to urban fire
This unit covers the competency for responding to an urban fire where offensive and defensive strategies are used, when working as a member of a team, under direct supervision.

Respond to wildfire
This unit covers the competency required to respond to a wildfire, work as a safe and situationally-aware member of a crew to attack and extinguish a fire, participate in mop-up and patrol operations, and prepare equipment for the next crew.

Work autonomously
This unit covers competency for working as a member of a team or as an individual for periods of time without direct supervision and for mentoring and coaching either in an operational or non-operational environment

Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

Undertake vertical rescue
It covers the competency required to undertake vertical rescue in a range of emergency situations in natural and man-made environments.

Undertake confined space rescue
This unit covers the competency required to undertake rescue in confined spaces, as defined in AS 2865-2009 Confined spaces, as a member of a single agency or multi-disciplinary team.

Respond to aviation incidents
This unit covers the competency required to work as a member of a non-specialist team under supervision when responding to an aviation incident.

Undertake road crash rescue
This unit covers the competency required to gain access to and extricate entrapped casualty/s from vehicles travelling on the road such as cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks and semi-trailers while minimising the potential for further injury and preserving the integrity of evidence. This unit requires the responder to access entrapped casualty/s using a range of techniques and to operate specialist equipment to undertake the rescue
